Let the red ink flow.

Just got the edited files for my weird WWII novella NOT OF US back from the publisher, Severed Press. At first glance it doesn't look too bad, but I've yet to delve into the meat of this one, saving that for this weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one completed. No cover yet, but stay tuned, I'll be sharing it here when it arrives.

Just typed The End!

For the first draft of book four of my post apocalyptic coming of age series. It's coming in at a little over 53,000 words and will probably end up around 60 - 65 after rewrites and edits.  This one will answer some questions while exposing others that will need explored. The boys are really starting to grasp their place in this world. The fourth member of the quartet, Einstein, will uncover a startling secret that threatens to tear them apart.

While I love the concept of looking at a post apocalyptic world through the eyes of these four young men, I will need to take a break from the series after book four. I know where book five is going, and I want to approach it with a fresh perspective.  Stay tuned for updates.

And the red covers the page.

My personal editor has returned the files for my 93,000 word paranormal mystery I'm currently calling Cursed. While she enjoyed the story, there were some holes in the plot that need filled, and a few issues with character ages that will need resolved before the manuscript can start making the rounds. I've known Patricia for over thirty years, she's one of the original members of the shadow writers, a group of horror writers I belonged to in the late eighties/early nineties. We met monthly via mail. She's one hell  of a writer in her own right as well. Here's a link to her short story collection Shiny Thing.  You owe it to yourself to check it out.

Couldn't put it down!

That's the response I got from one of my beta readers about my paranormal mystery with the working title  Cursed. One admitted to reading the entire 93,000 word manuscript overnight, "I couldn't put it down," she said, "every time I did, I'd start worrying about what was happening to the characters."

Makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Wanna join my group of beta readers? As a thank you they always receive an autographed print copy of the work they helped me with at, no cost. If you're interested, drop me a line at rschiver@gmail.com and we'll talk.

They said yes.

Just received word from Severed Press that they are interested in publishing my 46,000 word WWII military/sci-fi horror novella, NOT OF US. It feels so good to be wanted.
